Havasupai Backpacking Trip Tips

Havasupai is a native reservation in the middle of nowhere in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. If you have ever seen a tall blue waterfall with red rocks in the background (it is all over social media because it's beauty), it was very likely at Havasupai. We did this 10 miles backpacking camping for 3 nights, 4 days and it was amazing!!!!

We booked it pre-COVID. Yes, it is kind of hard to get permits. They do check them during the hikes, so make sure you get the permits and follow the rules! (They have a whole process for getting permits, so plan accordingly bc they sell out fast).

🎒The hike is about 10 miles (one way) and you must bring everything you need (backpacking camping). We stayed 3 nights 4 days.

🎒We hiked the 10 miles to the campsite but took the helicopter 🚁 out.

🎒We paid for mules to carry out big luggage both ways. Super worth it! We still hiked with a small backpack with snacks, waters and essentials.

🎒Pack light if you plan to hike with your bags… your back and legs will thank you!

🎒There is café and a store at the reservation village (2 miles from the campsite) but do not rely on them because the hours are not solid. We did get fried bread and drinks at them since they were opened while we passed them.

(They do not allow photos at the village!! So I followed the rules! I took photos at the signs that were outside the village)

🎒Hike around and visit all the waterfalls during your stay… my favorite spot was the “50 foot falls” (2nd photo) - which is not the tall waterfall but more the wide (hard to find but super private and you can walk behind the falls!)

🎒Be prepared for any weather… we got lucky with temperatures but got some rain… which is completely different than what we thought we would get (we thought hot and dry and got the opposite).

🎒 Have fun but follow the rules!!! (The rules are in place for safety and keeping the privacy of the reservation!)
