10 Tips To Visit to Japan

1. Have a plan! It is super overwhelming so at the very least have an idea of what you want to experience… from amazing places, to culture, food, so much to do and see so make sure you outline what you want to accomplish.

2. Use Google maps! It really works in Japan - we used it for metro, Shinkansen, walking, cable cars, street cars, etc!

3. Get a Suica or icoca card! (Very easy to add to your apple wallet directly).

4. Follow the specific sides of the lines for escalators and such. Even with the crazy crowds, it is amazing to see how everyone lines up properly. Be aware in places like Tokyo is on the left and Osaka is on the right… so just follow the crowds or the arrows.

5. Be on time! Everything we experienced was on time, especially transportation (if late, you will miss it!).

6. Be ready for big crowds - the metro, at touristic sites or theme parks.

7. The trains are extremely quiet!!! If you don’t want to stand out, keep your low voice!

8. Wear shoes that are easy to get off and on! Very likely you will have to take them off in many places in Japan.

9. Have cash and coins accessible! I know that we only use plastic these days, but Japan was one country I felt I needed cash! You can also use the Suica or Icoca card for a lot but the cash will be very useful for the vending machines, street food, temple donations, and much more… you will be glad to have some.

10. Carry a small garbage bag with you! This sounds crazy but it is hard to find garbage cans around.

Have fun!
